Week 38 + 39 in Room 3

Important Dates:

Monday, June 23 - Release Butterflies

Wednesday, June 24 - Sports Day

Thursday, June 25 - Last Day of School

Hello Room 3 Families:

It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of the school year! These past two weeks in Room 3 have been full of fun, learning, and special moments.

In Literacy, we’ve continued with our daily reading and spelling work, and the students have been busy finishing up the writing for their memory books. It’s been so sweet to see them reflect on their favourite moments from the year and proudly share their thoughts.

In Math, we’ve been exploring the concepts of “tall” and “short”, comparing different objects around the classroom. We also practiced our addition skills and played a few fun rounds of number bingo!

One of our biggest highlights was our walking field trip to the spray park. We had an absolute blast playing in the sun, splashing with friends, and enjoying some ice cream afterward. It was such a joyful way to celebrate the end of the year!

Another magical moment in Room 3—our butterflies hatched! The students were so excited to watch the transformation, and we’ve been carefully observing them all week. We’ll be releasing them on Monday, which will be a very special moment for us all.

To top it all off, we made cinnamon buns in class—and they were a huge hit! The room smelled amazing, and the students loved every part of the process (especially the eating part!).

Stay dry this weekend!

With gratitude,
Karly

This Week in Room 3:

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Room 3! Here’s a look at all the exciting learning and experiences your children have been enjoying:

Literacy
This week, we continued to develop our independent reading and spelling skills. The students are growing more confident choosing books and practicing their spelling words daily. We also practiced oral sharing during our Weekend Sharing Circle, where children took turns talking about their weekends—helping build their speaking and listening abilities. In writing, we focused on adding interesting details to our memory books to make our stories more vivid and engaging.

Math
We wrapped up our unit on Time and began exploring Measurement. We started by learning the terms “big” and “small” and contrasted different objects to understand these concepts better. The children also compared lengths of objects and practiced using the word “longer” when comparing two items. It was a great start to our new unit!

Social Learning
Our focus this week was on working together toward a common goal by doing our individual parts and following expected behaviours.
We put this learning into action during our exciting trip to the Zoo

The Zoo
The Zoo was this weeks big event!! It was such a joy exploring all the amazing animals—from the dinosaurs to the roaring and playful tigers, the baby and daddy gorillas, the Komodo dragon, and the sea otters. The kids also loved playing at Bugtopia playground. The trip was a wonderful opportunity to get out of the classroom and discover new things in a new place.

Science
In science, we observed our caterpillars closely, drawing detailed pictures and even cleaning out their habitat. We have watched them grow bigger every day and are patiently waiting for them to begin forming their chrysalises. It’s a fascinating process that everyone is excited to witness!

Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement at home. We are so proud of the growth and curiosity your children show every day!

Warm regards,
Miss Karly :)

We read short excerpts and students practiced answering comprehension questions.

Math:
We completed our unit on telling time, and students are now confidently reading analog and digital clocks to the hour and half hour. They’ve also had a great time using mini clocks to show different times. Feel free to quiz them at home—they love showing what they’ve learned!

We welcomed caterpillars to our classroom this week! The students are thrilled to observe their growth and transformation over the next few weeks. We're learning about the life cycle of butterflies and will be documenting their changes as we go.

Social Learning:
In social learning, we talked about being responsible, filling up each other's “buckets,” and how we can work together as a team. Students shared ways they can support one another and contribute to a positive classroom environment. We’ll continue building these important life skills through class discussions and activities.

The Last Two Weeks in Room 3:

We’ve had a wonderful couple of weeks in Room 3, full of creativity, learning, and fun! Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve been up to:

Literacy
Students have been busy working on independent word work, sharpening both reading and spelling skills in small supportive groups. We also took time to practice writing greeting cards for our amazing volunteers and a special birthday card for our wonderful Teaching Assistant, Ms. Rachel. In our memory books, we’ve been working on using the prompts Where, When, and Who to add rich detail to our writing. And of course, we continue to enjoy daily reading time together.

Math
In math, we’re focusing on individual goals through small group work. As a class, we’ve been exploring analog clocks—learning to tell, write, set, and say the time. It’s been a hands-on and engaging experience!

Science

We have been learning ALL about Ants. We have found that these wee creatures are really quite fascinating. We have explored their homes, how they find food, what they eat, and learned all about their life cycle.

Art
Our room has been bursting with color! For the volunteer tea, students created lovely vase drawings using black Sharpies and filled them with vibrant flowers. We also explored insect-themed art and have enjoyed lots of painting on our brand-new classroom easel!

Tech Time
Typing practice continues to be a highlight. The students are making great strides and having fun developing this essential skill.

Cooking in the Classroom
Cooking class was a big hit—we made homemade butter! Students put their muscles to the test by shaking cream until it transformed, then enjoyed it on fresh, homemade sourdough bread. Delicious and educational!

Social Learning
To build on our social skills, we held a classroom tea party to practice using restaurant manners. It was a lovely way to end our week.

Thank you for your continued support! We’re looking forward to more learning and fun in the days ahead.
