This Week in Room 3

It was a great week in Room 3!

In Math, we continued our unit on Data and Graphing. We continued looking at Pictographs as a way to organize information. Each day this week, we did a different poll, and used it to answer questions. We also learned about tally's and used tallies to track data. We then practiced counting by 5.

In Literacy, we did targeted Word Work, practicing our reading and writing skills. We did oral sharing of our weekend. Taking turns practicing asking and answering questions about our weekend. We then wrote about our weekends. We continued learning about verbs. We brainstormed verbs that we do at school. We came up with learn, read, write, jump, play, puzzle, listen, run, slide, and more! We also talked about similar verbs, and identified similar action words! Next week we will practice adding verbs to our writing.

In Science we started our new unit on Space! The students learned a new song about the order of the planets and we practiced revolving around the sun! 

We have been cooped up inside so much this month that when the sunshine came out on Thursday, we took advantage of our time outside and walked to a nearby hill for tobogganing. It was so much fun!

Week 22 in Room 3

Room 3 Sledding Day

On Thursday February 20 our class will go sledding in the community. Please send your child in full winter gear this day! If your child has a toboggan that you would be comfortable with them bringing to class this day, please send it with them and we will ensure it is sent home at the end of the day.

This Week in Room 3

It was a short and sweet week in Room 3.

In Math, we continued our unit on Data and Graphing. We continued looking at Pictographs as a way to organize information. Each day this week, we did a different poll, and used it to answer questions. See the results of our data this week in the pictures below.

In Literacy, we did targeted Word Work, practicing our reading and writing skills. We did oral sharing of our weekend. Taking turns practicing asking and answering questions about our weekend. We then wrote about our weekends. We celebrated a peers birthday and wrote special birthday messages to them. We also listened to the read-aloud story, Love, Z and talked about what we love and drew pictures and wrote about what we love.

In Life-Skills and Cooking we focused on our Guacamole dip. We practiced searching online for recipes, writing down ingredients and going to the store to look for items. We then prepared the guacamole as well. It was many of the students first time having guacamole and it was a huge hit! Most students had 2 or 3 servings.

In the Gym we continued practicing our hockey skills, went on a winter walk and did some EZ rolling.

Week 21 in Room 3

This week on February 10, 11 and 12, TRS will be having Student Spirit Days. The themes are as follows:

Monday February 10 - Dress like a Teacher or Student Day

Tuesday February 11 - Wacky Hair Day

Wednesday February 12 - Wear Pink and/or Red Day

Friendship Day Celebration:

On Wednesday, February 12 we will be celebrating Friendship in Room 3. We will discuss what it means to be a good friend and the qualities a good friend has. We will celebrate by giving compliments to one another and will hand out Valentines to our classmates. If you wish to send your child with Valentines, I sent home a list of the names of the students in Room 3 last week.

This Week in Room 3

In Math, we finished up our unit on Shapes.  We began a new unit on Data and Graphing. We began by looking at using a Pictograph to organize data. We asked everyone in our class what was our favourite animal between bird, dog, cat and hamster and put it in a graph.

In Literacy, we did targeted Word Work, practicing our reading and writing skills. We continued to learn parts of speech by looking at what a verb is and what examples of verbs are. We practiced identifying the types of verbs that different animals would do. We had a lot of fun coming up with these ideas as a class and practicing on our own. We also did some weekend writing and practiced adding in EXTRA details to make our writing more interesting.

In Art, we worked on new Self-Portraits for the month of February and did some guided drawing.

In the Gym we continued practicing our hockey skills, went on a winter walk and did some EZ rolling. 

The students were excited to par-take in Student Choice Club day on Friday. All of our students visited new classrooms with new teachers and a variety of new peers from different grades. They all came back very excited about what they had done!

Week 20 in Room 3

This Week in Room 3

In Math, we continued working on 3D Shapes. We discussed vertices, edges and faces in more detail and continued to practice identifying attributes of shapes. We also looked for 3D Shapes in our daily life, and identified those 3D Shapes by name.

In Social Learning, we reviewed classroom rules and discussed "out of control/unsafe" behaviour and "safe and in control" behaviour. We enjoyed role playing what it looks like when we are "out of control" and then modelling how we can be in control.

In Literacy, we did targeted Word Work, practicing our reading and writing skills. We also began looking at the Seven Grandfather Teachings, starting with the Eagle which teaches us Love. We discussed what Love means to each of us and drew pictures and wrote about it.

In the Gym we wrapped up with Alien in-line Skating. The kids loved rollerskating in the gym with their peers. We have continued practicing our floor hockey skills.
