Literacy:
We worked on paragraph writing this week, focusing on strong topic sentences and adding thoughtful supporting details. Students also practiced editing their writing for punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.
We read short excerpts and students practiced answering comprehension questions.

Math:
We completed our unit on telling time, and students are now confidently reading analog and digital clocks to the hour and half hour. They’ve also had a great time using mini clocks to show different times. Feel free to quiz them at home—they love showing what they’ve learned!

Phys Ed – Lacrosse with Elev8:
The class had an exciting time learning lacrosse with Elev8! Students practiced using lacrosse sticks, passing, and shooting, all while building teamwork and coordination. It was a fantastic experience, and everyone gave it their best effort!

Science – Our Caterpillars Have Arrived!
We welcomed caterpillars to our classroom this week! The students are thrilled to observe their growth and transformation over the next few weeks. We're learning about the life cycle of butterflies and will be documenting their changes as we go.

Social Learning:
In social learning, we talked about being responsible, filling up each other's “buckets,” and how we can work together as a team. Students shared ways they can support one another and contribute to a positive classroom environment. We’ll continue building these important life skills through class discussions and activities.

If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to reach out.

The Last Two Weeks in Room 3:

We’ve had a wonderful couple of weeks in Room 3, full of creativity, learning, and fun! Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve been up to:

Literacy
Students have been busy working on independent word work, sharpening both reading and spelling skills in small supportive groups. We also took time to practice writing greeting cards for our amazing volunteers and a special birthday card for our wonderful Teaching Assistant, Ms. Rachel. In our memory books, we’ve been working on using the prompts Where, When, and Who to add rich detail to our writing. And of course, we continue to enjoy daily reading time together.

Math
In math, we’re focusing on individual goals through small group work. As a class, we’ve been exploring analog clocks—learning to tell, write, set, and say the time. It’s been a hands-on and engaging experience!

Science

We have been learning ALL about Ants. We have found that these wee creatures are really quite fascinating. We have explored their homes, how they find food, what they eat, and learned all about their life cycle.

Art
Our room has been bursting with color! For the volunteer tea, students created lovely vase drawings using black Sharpies and filled them with vibrant flowers. We also explored insect-themed art and have enjoyed lots of painting on our brand-new classroom easel!

Tech Time
Typing practice continues to be a highlight. The students are making great strides and having fun developing this essential skill.

Cooking in the Classroom
Cooking class was a big hit—we made homemade butter! Students put their muscles to the test by shaking cream until it transformed, then enjoyed it on fresh, homemade sourdough bread. Delicious and educational!

Social Learning
To build on our social skills, we held a classroom tea party to practice using restaurant manners. It was a lovely way to end our week.

Thank you for your continued support! We’re looking forward to more learning and fun in the days ahead.

This Week in Room 3

Hi families,

We had a wonderful week in Room 3!

Literacy: We worked in groups to practice our reading and spelling during word work. The class also wrote heartfelt messages to their moms and added special memories to their memory books.

Math: We continued learning about clocks and have become confident in telling time to the hour—reading it, writing it, and setting it correctly. We’ve now started learning how to tell time to the half hour. Students also worked in small groups on double-digit addition.

Physical Education & Community Walk: In gym, we had fun with volleyball and skipping. We also went on a community walk to the grocery store, where we picked up supplies to make smoothies for staff birthdays!

Art: We created beautiful portraits of our moms and painted them using watercolor pencils. The results were thoughtful and creative!

Cinco de Mayo: We celebrated by practicing how to count to ten in Spanish and made our own guacamole—it was delicious and a fun cultural experience.

Student Choice Clubs: On Friday, students participated in their choice of clubs including puzzle club, soccer club, dance club, and bug club. It’s always a highlight of the week!

Thanks for a fantastic week of learning and fun. Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable weekend!

This Week in Room 3

We had a fantastic learning day at Abbey’s Ice Cream! The students sat down with Abbey, the owner, and asked her some thoughtful questions such as:

  • “How did you make your logo?”

  • “How old is Abbey’s Ice Cream?”

  • “How many flavours of ice cream do you have?”

  • “Do you sell anything besides ice cream?”

After our Q&A, the students got the exciting opportunity to go behind the counter, scoop their own ice cream, add toppings, and serve it up in a cone.

On Thursday, we went back to Abbey's to deliver her a special book that we created for her and got to enjoy some more ice cream as a class, practice our ordering skills and how to pay for our order. What a sweet experience!

In Literacy, we continued our daily reading, spelling, and writing activities during independent word work time. We also created a special book for Abbey, sharing all the things we love about her ice cream shop — a fun way to practice writing with purpose!

In Math, we’ve been working on our individual numeracy goals and continuing our unit on Time. Students have been learning to read analog clocks and understanding what the short hand represents. They’re doing a great job telling time to the hour!

In Art, we created our May Self-Portraits and some fun and colourful ice cream-themed artwork.

Every morning, students have been doing a great job taking turns leading our Morning Meetings. It’s a wonderful chance for them to build confidence, ask questions, and practice being classroom leaders.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend — enjoy the beautiful weather! 🌞🍦
