Next week our class will be visiting the Book Fair during our regular scheduled Library time (Tuesday, March 18 morning) to preview the selection of books, posters, and gadgets. We will support the students in writing down what items they would be interested in purchasing and send that home with them. On Thursday, March 20 students who bring in money will be invited to go to the Library to purchase their items. If you would like to circle the items you would like your child to purchase you can send that back in and we can support them with their transaction.

This Week in Room 3

It was a full and busy week in Room 3 this week!

In Math, we continued our unit on Data and Graphing. This week we learned about bar graphs as a way to organize information.
We have also begun Math centres where students have been learning personalized Math skills in small groups.

In Literacy, each day we do Word Work, practicing our reading and writing skills. We did oral sharing of our weekend. We take turns practicing asking and answering questions about our weekend. We then wrote about our weekends. In Grammar, we have continued to learn about Adjectives. This week we chose a mystery item and practiced giving adjective clues to our classmates. This was a lot of fun! We also discussed Signs of Spring while on a walk throughout our community. We used our 5 senses when on our walk to discuss what was happening in nature. We also did Oral story telling about our perfect Spring day.

In Gym, we have been taking advantage of the gymnastics set up and practicing some of our gross motor movements. We did somersaults, rolls, jumps and balancing and climbing on ladders, poles, and ropes . The students really looked forward to this each day!

In Art we made Umbrella Suncatchers to put in our windows and fluffy white rain clouds to hang in our room. It was fun working with different media this week!

Have an amazing weekend with your families,

This Week in Room 3

It was a wonderful last couple of weeks in Room 3.

In Math, we continued our unit on Data and Graphing. We continued looking at daily polls and used pictographs as a way to organize the information. We have been getting really good at interpreting and understanding what the graphs are telling us! We have also continued exploring tally marks. We have practiced making tally marks and to remember to put them in bundles we sing "1, 2, 3, 4 and one more makes 5" as we cross through the four marks.

In Literacy, each day we do Word Work, practicing our reading and writing skills. We did oral sharing of our weekend. We take turns practicing asking and answering questions about our weekend. We then wrote about our weekends. We began learning about a new part of speech, Adjectives! We have learned that adjectives are describing words. We brainstormed adjectives about ourselves.

In Science we learned about Constellations and in Art we made our own galaxies with name constellations. They turned out so cute!

In Cooking in the Classroom last week, we prepared fruit kabobs for the staff. We worked on patterning when placing the fruit on the skewers. This was a lot of fun! This week we made Homemade French Fries. This was a big hit with the students. We talked about how fries are made from potatoes. We cut the potatoes, seasoned them and air-fried them! We of course then ate them with ketchup! :) The students said "these are amazing!!"

In Gym, we have been taking advantage of the gymnastics set up and practicing some of our gross motor movements. We did somersaults, rolls, jumps and balancing. The students really. enjoyed this.
