This week in Room 3:

Literacy - This week we began looking at words containing, "-at". We discussed rhyming words, and practiced decoding vowel sounds. We also continued to explore our feelings. This week, we discussed the emotion Sadness. We talked about how we can tell if someone is sad, things that make us sad, and how we can manage sad feelings.

We discussed adjectives, by using our 5 senses to describe a pumpkin. We looked at the poem, Pumpkins and looked at the nouns and syllables in the poem.

Math - This week in Math it was all about pumpkins. We measured the height of our pumpkin with blocks, we weighed our pumpkins, we graphed the results of our measurements. We also opened up our pumpkins and discussed the terms "many" and "few" when describing the amount of seeds in each of our pumpkins.

Science - This week we did a Science experiment with our pumpkins. The students made predictions whether or not their pumpkin would sink or float. We found out that our BIG pumpkins do in fact float in water.

Cooking in the Class- This week the students in room 3 made the cupcakes for the staff who celebrated birthdays in September and October. We baked and decorated the cupcakes and this was lots of fun. We also each had a cupcake too to celebrate the birthdays in our class this month. :)

Gym - This week we played a new game called "Get your Junk off my Lawn". The students seemed to like this game. We also have been practicing dribbling and shooting basketballs.

Week 7 in Room 3

This week in Room 3:

Literacy - This week, we did some sharing and writing about our weekends.We finished our alphabet letter exploration with the letters Z and Q. We have begun to explore our feelings. We started with the feeling Anger, and were able to write about what makes us angry. We discussed managing these angry feelings.

Math - This week in Math we continued practicing using number lines, and also used them as a tool to answer addition word problems. We read the book Walter's Wonderful Web and discussed a variety of different shapes this week.

Science - This week we did a Science experiment with sugar cubes and water. The students enjoyed making guesses about how many cubes would soak up the water. 

Art - This week we made our own webs with white glue and salt and water colour painted them. The turned out super cool!

We went to the grocery store this week and each selected a pumpkin to bring back to our class. We will use the pumpkins for our pumpkin science, math and literacy activities next week. This is a lot of fun and the students seem to really enjoy these outings and choosing their own items.

Week 6 in Room 3

This week in Room 3:

Literacy - We read a poem, called 5 Little Turkeys. We practiced reciting the poem together. We continued to explore syllables. This week we used a drum to practice counting out the syllables in words. We counted how many syllables were in each line of the poem and recognized that the number of syllables were in a repeating pattern. We started to explore nouns this week and practiced spotting the nouns in our poem. We continued to investigate three more letters this week: W, Y and X.

Math - This week in Math we continued practicing using number lines, and also used them as a tool to answer addition word problems. 

Science - This week we collected four ladybugs and kept them in our classroom to observe over the span of a few days. Each student named one of the ladybugs. We had Bob, Melon, Baloney and Doll. We continued to learn more about ladybugs and did a "scientific" drawing of a ladybug in our Visual Journals. Then we took them to the ladybug tree to say goodbye. We also collected a special leaf and did a "Leaf Investigation" We compared it's size, colour, and shape.

Gym - This week in gym we pulled out the Parachute and played several fun games. This was a hit with the students. We had so much fun and so many laughs.

Cooking in the Classroom - We had SO much fun making our 2-Ingredient Pumpkin Muffins this week in the Staff Kitchen. We practiced gathering materials, reading and following the steps, and cleaning up. We each tried a muffin, one student rated them "16/15" and I would have to agree. They turned out pretty tasty. We even shared them with the staff at TRS :)

We read several books about giving Thanks and discussed what we personally feel grateful for.

Reminder to please send your child's library books back to school. It is exciting for them to pick out new books each week during our library time.

This week in Room 3:

Literacy - We read a poem, called Apples. We practiced reciting the poem together. We continued to explore syllables and count how many syllables were in the poem. We cut and tasted apples and discussed how the apples tasted. We discussed "adjectives" and how these are describing words. Then we looked for and identified adjectives in the poem. We continued to investigate three more letters this week: H, K and V.

Math - This week in Math we began taking a look at addition to 20 using number lines. The students have had a lot of success using this mathematical tool. We will continue practice using number lines to answer addition questions, and also begin to use them for subtraction.

Art - This week in Art we worked on our Art Cards which turned out super cute. We also did a watercolour painting and writing activity for Orange Shirt Day.

Science - This week in Science, we did an experiment using pop rock candy and coke to blow up a balloon. The students were excited to see the balloon inflate using candy and the pop. Science is a lot of fun and often a highlight in our week!

Reminder to please send your child's library books back to school. It is exciting for them to pick out new books each week during our library time.
